Breastfeeding is one of the most wonderful thing you can do for your child, but it doesn't come naturally for some. It has many challenges along the way which can be very discouraging, but you don't need to be alone. Come in and share your joys, frustrations and questions.

My little boy is now nearly 8 months and now feeds well 4 times a day. He still gets distracted when we are out, but catches up in the next feed. At 6 months 1 week I cut out the night feeding with suprisingly little resistance and the the 10 pm feed 2 weeks later. His actually wakes in the morning wanting a feed. No night feeding has also meant he sleeping better. I guess the maternal child health nurse was right! |

Anybody heard that yarn about a breastfeeding woman waking up with a venomous snake attached to her breast drinking her breastmilk?
Her bub was asleep beside her but the snake was so intent on having a good feed paid him no mind, she didnt move until the snake detached itself and slithered out of the room.
When I heard the story (pregnant with 1st bub) I freaked out! What would you do???
I know I would try to remain calm but the thought of a snake attached to me, especially a very sensitive area, I imagine ripping it off and slinging it across the room!!! The horror of that action gives me pause cause then I think of venom and the snakes teeth ripping my nipple off!!! What about my bub?? What if he nudged the snake and the snake reared??
The endless thoughts running through my mind... my hubby and I moved from NSW to QLD last year and have 4 kiddies, it is so hot and our house is old with holes in the floors!
I'm gonna go through the house tomorrow with old rags and stuff all the holes with them!
Stay safe
Peace

Hi I am breastfeeding my fussy 6.5 month old boy. He has always been a terrible morning feeder. I just put this down to feeding in the night. Well over the past week he has been sleeping through. I have been giving his a dream feed at 10pm. Still fussing this morning. I try and feed him just after he has woken so he is not too distracted. Not working. Tomorrow I'll put him on the floor and wait. I do worry he is not getting enough milk, though he feeds really well before bed. Today I rang the help line again and was told that he probably doesn't need the 5 feeds I am tring to give him that 3 to 4 would be enough and he shouldn't need the 10pm feed. I think I am "trying to feed" rather than "demand feeding". He is such a good solids eater. It is hard not to compare his feeding to my daughter. I would put her to the breast and she would just feed. I wonder if a did feed him less maybe he may take bigger volumes. I do get stressed when he obviously is crying in hunger when we are out but is too distracted to feed properly. Unfortunately I keep thinking he is always going to be a fussy feeder. |

Hi all, my 3 yo is a boobie-a-holic, and weaning he is just so difficult. My 1st weaned at 3 1/2 and I thought that was too long, my 2nd at 18 months.
I've tried telling him he doesn't need it anymore because he is a big boy, butt he is always at me for the comfort no doubt.
Now, just to let you know, I can't just get up and go elsewhere because I have mS, so I am always having ''gruelling sit downs'' which makes it all too easy for him to just climb on up, can any of you offer any advice PLEASE. CHEERS

I am just 10 weeks away from my EDD and have a few questions:
I tried to breastfeed my daughter but everytime I tried to get her to latch on, I broke out into a cold sweat, did anyone else experience this?
If I am unable to get the new baby to latch on, can I still express my milk and feed with a bottle?
I would also like some advice on how to help baby to latch on and some techniques to try.
Thank you

Any difficulties with breastfeeding can be solved with dietary modifications. Maintaining a high fibre diet will stop any constipation issues with your baby(ies). Get fibre from vegetables, if you want to lose weight, and keep up the fats - a half cup of raw oil will help your baby keep gaining weight. Flaxseed oil is good (olive oil can cause skin issues). |

Things can surely change fast. When I entered the post below, I was breastfeeding 3x a day and had no problem. A week after that I got bit and bit hard, by both of the girls! Now only do they bite, they somehow clamp down while nursing. I was sore for a week.
So now we're down to 2x a day. I think we're surely heading down weaning, how soon or how long the process will take is undecided so we'll play it by ear. |
